Presented as a meditation on memory, extinction, and the imprint of human presence, Earthbound is a visually arresting, multi-screen cinematic installation set in a world transformed by the aftermath of a future Ice Age and what reawakens as the ice recedes. As the permafrost melts, a solitary figure emerges from the depths of a glacier in search of life and discovers remnants of an extinct world, fossilised animals, insects, and fragments of human debris. Filmed by Robbie Ryan, this immersive work is a timely vision of humanity’s fragile relationship with the natural world in this era of climate crisis and mass extinction. The accompanying photography extends this reflection into an exploration of time, memory, and environmental preservation. Combining abstract and intimate imagery with expansive frozen landscapes, Clare Langan creates a powerful experience that is both cinematic and contemplative.
